Our goal at Mayfield is to allow the Spirit of God the freedom it needs for us to worship and glorify God the way he deserves. Our Church strives to promote a place where love abounds, knowledge can be gained, wisdom can be shared and God can be praised and preached in the full freedom of the Spirit.
Jesus Christ is the son of God. He is a part of the holy trinity along with God the Father and the Holy Spirit. Three separate parts of the God head yet also one in the same. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary, committed no sins within His lifespan, gathered His disciples and began preaching of the Kingdom of Heaven to the masses once he reached the age of 30, was beaten, cursed, ridiculed and finally sent to the cross to die for claiming to be exactly who He was...the only begotten son of God. The story doesn't end there though. He resurrected 3 days later and walked among his disciples and the living before finally ascending into Heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father. By our belief in what Jesus Christ did for us and our faith apportioned to us by the Father himself, our sins can be forgiven because Jesus gave up his perfect life and died in our place. He sits at the right and of the Father making intercessions for us on our behalf....but only if you know him and the only way to know him is through salvation.
We fully believe in Baptism by submersion after receiving Christ as your savior. While Baptism isn't a requirement for Heaven, it is an ordinance and requirement for membership at our Church. Baptism is symbolic and is an outward showing to the world that a change has taken place in your life and that you will never be the same again. Often referred to as "the liquid grave", you start out life in an unknowing state until you realize that you are a sinner and need cleansing. You make the decision to repent of those sins and receive Jesus Christ in your life and start your new life walking within His will. The "dead man" is gone which allows us to start our new lives with Jesus Christ.
Another ordinance of the Church, communion, is both Holy and Sacred. Before giving his life on the cross, Jesus ate supper with his disciples in celebration of the Passover. This meal was prepared in remembrance of the death angel passing by the doors of those obedient that had applied the blood of a sacrificed lamb on the door posts during the unleashing of the last plague as God lead the Hebrew children out of captivity in Egypt under rule of Pharaoh. As Jesus and the disciples were about to eat and drink, Jesus blessed the bread, broke it and gave it too them saying "this is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you." We also share the bread and the cup together here at Mayfield, it is a precious day focused on doing what Christ asked us to do and that is to remember Him and what He did for us!
We use the King James Version of the Bible here at Mayfield. We recognize the fact that there are many different versions of the Bible available but everything that is taught or preached from within our Church is out of the King James Version.
